Cafes & restaurants in New York: our best addresses

In New York, gastronomy is renowned for being mainly dedicated to fast food, but going a little further, New York stands out for its great culinary diversity. You will find dishes for all preferences: Australian brunch, seafood, American steak house and more!

devotion

Let's start with Devoción, a place located in the heart of Brooklyn, perfect for working in peace around a café with character. It should be noted that Devoción is present in three other locations in New York, but we have chosen the best and most central for you.

Devoción Coffee sources its coffee from Colombia and roasts it in Brooklyn. This explains its name as well as the quality and finesse of its coffees, which you can drink under high ceilings and in comfortable leather seats.

On the menu side, the chain offers savory and sweet pastries: croissants with guava and cheese or leek and parma, banana bread… Teas, drinks with or without coffee are also available, with optional vegetable milk if you wish. The establishment also offers its own coffees and sells them at retail. You can therefore leave with your coffee with notes of cocoa, vanilla or even peach, honey… And all this at a fair price.

According to your desire, you can consume them on the spot, to take away, or in delivery! The wait is moderate on site, so we advise you to go there early in the morning. Try Devoción and write to us on Instagram @ldb_paris to give us your impression!

Kobrick Coffee Co.

We're going to the Meatpacking District this time, since we suggest Kobrick Coffee. There reigns here a joyful and warm atmosphere against a backdrop of Spanish music. The environment of this place contributes to it and it is also what we come to seek here; the colors are in shades of brown mixed with wood, accompanied by plants and vintage armchairs placed here and there... Ideal for a moment with friends or as a couple indoors or on the outdoor terrace.

This cafe offers a wide selection of snacks: sandwiches, carrot muffins or Babka, brunch with salmon bagels or Acai Bowls and Grilled Cheese, salads and more. They also offer various drinks with and without coffee, coffee by the pound or in sachets to take home. Enjoy beers, wines and cocktails during happy hour until 6 p.m. on weekdays!

The Kobrick Coffee offer is a little more expensive than that of Devoción, which can, among other things, be explained by the fact that the prices are higher on the island of Manhattan.

If you do not want to have too many people around you, prefer morning hours on weekdays.

sonny boy

We are taking you this time to Sonny Boy, in the Bowery district of Manhattan! A hyped little Aussie cafe equally suited to locals and visitors alike.

What we appreciate here is the relaxed climate, the small terrace with its porch at the entrance, the wooden tables and the fact that the place is mainly dedicated to brunches and seasonal food (probably the one of the best brunches by the way). Avocado toast, burgers, fig toast and burrata with gluten-free options can therefore be served with a glass of wine, cocktail or espresso. And at a reasonable price range.

Café during the day, wine bar in the evening, this place is perfect for a drink and a treat with friends or as a couple! A victim of its success, Sonny Boy is very popular on weekends, the take-out and delivery option may be a good alternative.

Museum of Modern Art

Known by the acronym MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art is none other than a world-renowned museum of contemporary and modern art that appeared in 1929. It is in Manhattan, in the Midtown district on 53rd Avenue, that the museum exhibits its permanent and temporary collections.

We recommend that you book in order to enjoy your ride, but it is not an obligation, you can also buy your tickets on site. Note that the adult ticket does not exceed $30. There is often a queue at the entrance, but it only lasts a few moments. A word of advice, if you want to avoid the queue, the City Pass New York allows you to have skip-the-line entry to many cultural addresses.

The MoMA hosts collections of paintings, sculptures, photographs divided into 6 levels. We advise you to prioritize the visit on the 4th and 5th floor, the main authors you know are there. Expect to encounter works by renowned artists: Picasso's "Les demoiselles d'Avignon", Mondrian's "Broadway Boogie-Woogie", the essential Van Goghs, or the well-known "Campbell cans". by Warhol. To contemplate all the works, plan at least 2 days during your stay.

Fancy a break after your visit? Take the opportunity to have a latte in one of the museum's two cafes and why not have lunch in their restaurant, The Modern.

Brooklyn Museum

Far from the usual bustle of tourists, we suggest the Brooklyn Museum, such a huge and imposing building that could well be the residence of the American Congress. This museum is the second largest in New York and alone represents 52,000 m2 of artistic treasures.

This internationally recognized institution offers its permanent collection by bringing together more than a million objects and documents centered on American art. You will also take pleasure in contemplating its collections of contemporary art; from the works of Monet to the paintings and sculptures of Judy Chicago. And you can travel back in time, thanks to the crown jewel of this museum, their collection of Egyptian art. Many temporary exhibitions relating to the work of various fashion designers (especially French) are at the Brooklyn Museum.

Admission is free on the first Saturday of each month and the price of an adult ticket is $16. It is also one of the cheapest museums in NYC. Do not forget your City Pass New York, to benefit from advantages on your entry.

To end your day, we advise you to take a walk in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, located right next to the museum.
